(Latrobe Bulletin) A local man was honored on Nov. 24 with the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award.
Mark Nobile of Unity Township received the award for the more than 30 years he has spent cleaning up local roadways. Only elected officials can nominate someone for the award, and it’s not typically presented to an individual; usually, it’s given to a group or school organization, according to Heidi Pedicone of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
But Nobile, whose motto is, “Bag a week, keep it neat,” has demonstrated the kind of environmental stewardship that caught the eye of state Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland), who nominated Nobile for the prize.
“We cannot help but be impressed by Mark’s continuous efforts that show just what one person’s commitment can do for an entire community,” said Rossi. “We enjoyed hearing his stories as he expressed his appreciation to the Unity Township supervisors and the township’s maintenance crews, who routinely travel the roads to collect the orange bags he fills during his cleanups.”
