The Greater Bustleton Civic League Receives Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award for Litter Cleanup of Philly Streets and Pennypack Park

(October 1, 2024) In a heartfelt recognition of their unwavering dedication to community beautification, Senator Jimmy Dillon, PA State Senator of the 5th District, nominated The Greater Bustleton Civic League for the esteemed Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award. This nomination celebrates the league’s persistent efforts in maintaining the aesthetic integrity of Philadelphia’s streets and the cherished sections of Pennypack Park.

Every week, the committed members of the civic league roll up their sleeves to remove trash, debris and unauthorized advertisements from public spaces. Their tireless work ensures that the streets remain clean and inviting. Additionally, the league has adopted sections of Pennypack Park, organizing regular cleanup and maintenance activities to preserve this vital green space for all residents to enjoy.

“The work of the Greater Bustleton Civic League has not only led to a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful Bustleton but has also fostered a sense of unity and pride among my constituents. Their dedication to improving our environment and quality of life is truly commendable and deserving of this great award,” said Senator Jimmy Dillon.

“Neighborhood clean-ups have been a regular occurrence at the 80-year-old Greater Bustleton Civic League, and we are very appreciative for the recognition and receiving the award. The clean-ups, big and small, are a true community effort that everybody benefits from,” added Jack O’Hara, President of Greater Bustleton Civic League.

Clean and beautiful communities tend to see less littering and other illegal behavior, making it a better place for all residents and providing a foundation for community and economic development.

“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful congratulates and commends the members of the Greater Bustleton Civic League for their continual efforts to care for Philadelphia’s streets and treasured park. This nomination is a testament to their hard work and the positive difference they continue to make in the community.” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “We encourage all public officials to recognize the good and necessary work and the special people who coordinate local programs that keep our communities clean and beautiful with a Community Pride Award.”

The Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship by an individual, school, community organization or civic group that makes an outstanding commitment to litter control, recycling or general environmental stewardship. The community Pride Award is available to elected officials to recognize those in the community working to change behaviors at the local level.
