Representative Lisa Borowski Nominates Newtown Square in Bloom to Receive Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s Community Pride Award
(May 15, 2024) Pennsylvania Representative Lisa Borowski, District 168, Delaware County, nominated Newtown Square in Bloom (NSIB) for the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award for their efforts to beautify areas in the township. Newtown Square in Bloom is a volunteer organization staffed by residents of Newtown Township.
The volunteers, many of whom are members of township committees, organizations, and businesses, plant flowers and trees, maintain the trail network, clean up parks and streams on Arbor Day, weed and maintain the Drexel Lodge Park Butterfly Garden, maintain the township building rain garden and help enhance the many significant historic buildings across the township.
These projects have earned a positive response from the community and contribute not just to the beauty of the community, but support sustainability and natural stormwater management. The group has also brought people together and created a true collaborative effort as residents demonstrate their pride in and of Newtown Township. Newtown Square in Bloom is supported by Newtown Township.
Newtown Square is the only Pennsylvania member of the national organization, America in Bloom, whose urban renewal program provides a framework and is a catalyst for community organizations to work together for visible improvements.
“Newtown Square in Bloom is an outstanding organization making a beautiful and lasting impact across Newtown Township. I am so proud of their work and happy to support their efforts,” said Representative Borowski.
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful congratulates and commends Newtown Square in Bloom and its volunteers for their continual efforts to keep their town clean and beautiful,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
Clean and beautiful communities tend to see less littering and other illegal behavior, making it a better place for all residents and providing a foundation for community and economic development.
“We are grateful to Representative Lisa Borowski for recognizing Newtown Square in Bloom and their many contributions to the local community. We encourage all public officials to recognize the noble and necessary work and the special people who coordinate local programs that keep our communities clean and beautiful with a Community Pride Award,” said Reiter.
The Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship by an individual, school, community organization or civic group that makes an outstanding commitment to litter control, recycling, or general environmental stewardship. The community Pride Award is available to elected officials to recognize those in the community working to change behaviors at the local level. Elected officials interested in nominating a constituent for a Community Pride Award should visit keeppabeautiful.org and choose grants and awards, then awards, then Community Pride Award for more information. The award is open on a rolling basis.
