Grant to Help Clean Up Illegal Dumpsites in Columbia and Luzerne Counties

(Fox 56 WOLF) A regional environmental nonprofit plans to tackle illegal dumpsites across Columbia and Luzerne counties with help from a new grant aimed at improving local communities and protecting the environment.
The Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR) has been awarded $10,000 from the Amazon Northeastern Pennsylvania Community Fund to launch its Remove Illegal Dumpsites (RID) Project. The initiative will focus on cleaning up problem areas and preventing future dumping — particularly of discarded vehicle tires.
EPCAMR will organize several cleanup events throughout 2025 and early 2026, providing volunteers with gloves, safety gear, and proper waste disposal. Sites under consideration include areas in or near Centralia, Shickshinny, Mountain Top, Plains Township, and Hanover Township. Cleanup dates will be posted on the organization’s Facebook page.
