Tree Planting Grants To Benefit McCaskey High School, Lititz Church

(LNP | LancasterOnline) Tree-planting projects in Lancaster city and Lititz are getting a boost from more than $4,500 in grants that support similar efforts across Pennsylvania.

Recipients of Healing the Planet grants include Marlisa Yoder-Bontrager, who was awarded $4,000 for a project at McCaskey High School in the city, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lititz, which was awarded $540.

Nonprofit Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is partnering with with the Giant Co. to award the grants.

The grant awarded to Yoder-Bontrager will go towards an ongoing project recognized with the 2023 Mira Lloyd Doc Partnership Diversity Award from the 10 Million Trees Partnership. The 2023 award is sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, which is contributing trees, planting supplies and maintenance support for two years.

“We’re piecing together money from several sources so the scope of the project is much larger than I had dreamed of — the count is up to 50+ trees, a variety of native shrubs and a several year plan that could include a wildflower meadow just west of McCaskey East,” Yoder-Bontrager said in an email.
