Litter Prevention Efforts Continue At PA Waterways With New Plans In The Works

Litter control boom and educational sign at Presque Isle Bay

(YourErie.com/WJET24 Fox66) Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Erie Port Authority are working together to keep litter out of Presque Isle Bay, Lake Erie and all local watersheds.

On Tuesday, the two groups met to talk about litter, its impact on our environment and strategies they’re implementing to collect as much of it as possible.

Two litter booms were established in Presque Isle Bay, and there are plans to install more.

“We live adjacent to 20% of the world’s freshwater supply. With that in mind, we should really be ultra-sensitive about what we have on our back doorstep. It requires a lot of care and a lot of attention,” said Don Benczkowski, program coordinator with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, there will be an International Coastal Cleanup event at Presque Isle which you can help out with by clicking here.
