(PA Environmental Digest) On August 30, a Juniata River Clean Up organized by the Huntingdon County Conservation District and Rothrock Outfitters attracted 55 volunteers who paddled down this beautiful waterway in Central Pennsylvania.

The volunteers’ work amounted to extracting 65 tires and 1.1 tons of litter debris from the four mile section of the Juniata river.

This is the 13th year the Conservation District has organized the river cleanup event.

Since 2013, volunteers have pulled out a total of 943 tires and 57,480 pounds or 28.74 tons of debris from the river!

Since 2018, a total of 267 volunteers have worked on the cleanup.

Tony Seguin, who died in 2022 of cancer, was the former owner of Rothrock Outfitters and Boxers Cafe, and was a key contributor to cleaning up the river since 2013.

Tony served the Huntingdon and Raystown Lake communities for over 30 years. After his passing, the river clean up has been held to honor the incredible life of Tony and his passion for protecting our environment.

Maggie Ritchey, Watershed Specialist for HCCD and key event planner, said–“ I think the partnership between Rothrock Outfitters and the HCCD is remarkable. We appreciate teaming up with them every year and it’s always amazing to see what this business can do!”
