East Buffalo Township To Use $2,400 Grant To Plant Trees In Park

The Daily Item East Buffalo Township received a grant that will allow the municipality to plant 40 trees at Turtle Creek Park.

The $2,400 Healing the Planet grant from The GIANT Company and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will be used to purchase 40 hardwood trees to be planted in October. The township staff will prepare the planting sites and will seek volunteers to assist with the planting project.

“We’re excited to receive this generous donation from GIANT to continue restoring the natural landscape at Turtle Creek Park,” township Supervisor Chair Jim Knight said. “We are making steady progress to bring the park back to a more natural state and make it more attractive for visitors. We started by planting over 100 seedlings, many of which are ready to transplant, in a nursery two years ago. We then planted 20 larger oak trees last fall with the help of a Bucknell fraternity. This is the next step in creating a natural woodland environment similar to the surrounding area.”
