Trees Planted at York County Farm to Celebrate Earth Day

WGAL 8 – Six acres of new trees were planted on a farm in York County in celebration of Earth Day.
The Giant Company teamed up with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful for the project at Horn Farm Center.
The facility was a 2021 recipient of a “Healing the Planet” grant.
Thirty volunteers from Giant were at the farm weeding around the trees.
“The weeds compete with the trees, so we try to give the trees a leg up. We try to give them as much advantage as we can as they establish themselves,” said Alexis Campbell, the farm’s executive director.
“When the trees grow to much larger heights, much bigger roots, weeds won’t be a problem, but right now they need our help to keep growing,” Giant employee Ian Covert said.
The volunteers also planted 250 native trees in another section of the farm.
This cleanup and beautification project is a continuation of community improvements through the Giant Company’s Reduced Emissions Program.
