Coronavirus concern leads Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to suspend annual statewide litter cleanup

Fighting illegal dumping and litter

Penn Live Patriot News – Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful programs have removed 141 millions pounds of trash along Pennsylvania roads, shorelines and trails. Responding to coronavirus concerns, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has suspended its annual statewide litter cleanup program – Pick Up Pennsylvania – through the end of April.

The Pick Up Pennsylvania program will be rescheduled for May and June.

The state organization also recommended that anyone with a registered event should consider rescheduling.

More details concerning free cleanup supplies of bags, gloves and safety vests, and free or reduced cost landfill space will be communicated as they become available.

Pick Up Pennsylvania is coordinated by Keep PA Beautiful and its partners, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association.

In the 2019 cleanup event, 92,342 volunteers were instrumental in cleaning up more than 6 million pounds of trash during 5,356 events across the state.
