Responsible individual behavior is the single best way to prevent litter, beautify our communities, properly handling waste and, in general, to “Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.”

The KPB alliance offers individual citizens steps they can take in their own home and neighborhoods and suggestions on how to become more involved in their community.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Tools and Services

KPB Community Greening Award Contest – Individuals may nominate any garden/ green space that serves as a community amenity by being open for public enjoyment. The deadline for nominations is June 30, 2006.  Participate in the Great Pennsylvania Cleanup Pledge to “Not be a Litterbug” and Call the Litterbug Hotline – If you see anyone throwing litter from their car call: 1-888-LITTERBUG ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY – Keep a highway near you clean and free of litter under PENNDOT’s official “Adopt-A-Highway” program. (PDF File) Reduce-Reuse-Recycle – in your home and workplace – The PA Department of Environmental Protection has a list of recycling centers near you. Pennsylvania Parks & Forest Foundation – Form a “Friends of the Park Group” and help keep one of our state parks clean and beautiful. Plant Native Trees, Shrubs, and Flowers in your yard & neighborhood – The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has a wealth of information and advice on planting natives in your garden to provide beauty and preserve PA’s eco-diversity. Cleanup and Protect Pennsylvania’s Watersheds – Cleaning and protectin our rivers, streams, and waterways is an important part of Keeping Pennsylvania Beautiful.  Pennsylvania Organization for Rivers & Watersheds has a list of groups near you and information on forming a watershed group.
