College Internship Program

Allentown

In partnership with the OAPA, Anthony and Kristin spent the summer creating a pocket park, a tree well beautification program, and historic markers for a neighborhood walking tour. Both the tree well and historic maker proposals were well presented, thought out, and gained the support of the community. In fact, members of the OAPA board have set money aside to pay for the historic markers.

The interns worked closely with local designers to develop a landscaping plan for the pocket park. Once the plan was complete, the interns partnered with the City of Allentown who kindly removed debris and regraded the site, they also donated and spread out topsoil. The donations from the City were enormous contributions to the project.

The Allentown internship was a success and a challenge for the community and the interns. In many ways, overcoming the challenges which arose over the summer strengthened the outcome of the project and enhanced the experience.
