About the Program
During the spring and summer of 2006, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful
(KPB), the PA Downtown Center (PCD), and the Pennsylvania Horticultural
Society (PHS) partnered on an innovative college internship program.
The internship program aims to beautify Pennsylvania's neighborhoods
and encourage individual stewardship by pairing college interns
with communities to implement art & greening projects (See Summer
2006, below, for examples of past projects).
KPB, PDC and PHS share a core belief that undertaking neighborhood art & greening projects is an effective approach to community building. Further, the partnership believes that neighborhood scale projects are successful for three main reasons:
• First, the activities are inherently inclusive and "fun";
• Second, the topics are non-threatening or controversial; and
• Third, the results are highly visible and aesthetically
pleasing.
Summer 2007
For the summer of 2007, Keep PA Beautiful plans to hire 24 to 36
college interns to work with communities to implement 12 projects.
