In 1998, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
and a number of non-profits and business groups jointly sponsored
a statewide “Litter Summit” to bring together groups
and individuals that were working to minimize and prevent litter
across the Commonwealth. Attendees at the Summit identified
a number of issues and possible activities to explore, and formed
an informal Litter Task Force to research the ideas.
The Litter Task Force operated from 1999 to 2002 when the group
expanded it membership and formed the Anti-Litter Alliance of Pennsylvania.
This expanded group explored various organizational structures
and, after extensive discussion, decided to establish a state affiliate
Keep America Beautiful.
In July 2003, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful was officially designated
as Pennsylvania’s state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. |
