PA CleanWays of Blair County, an affiliate of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, was formed in 1996 with support from residents concerned about illegal dumping in the county. The affiliate focuses on cleanups of illegal dumps, special collection events for disposal of hard to recycle items, and educating the public on the detriments of illegal dumping and littering. Since our inception through the end of 2009, Blair County has held 21 cleanups removing and properly disposing 127.64 tons of trash as well as recycling over 2,300 tires! Additionally, over our most recent special collection events, we have removed and properly disposed of or recycled 119 tires, 22 tons of scrap, 20 tons of electronics, and 13 tons of household hazardous waste!
The Blair County Affiliate has an extensive network of volunteers, including several local conservation groups. Since 2005, our volunteers have donated a total of 1,200 volunteer hours to help make Blair County a better place to live, work, and play!
The Blair County Illegal Dump Survey was completed in the spring of 2010 by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to identify illegal dumpsites within the county. Since 2005, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has surveyed 49 counties in the Commonwealth, identifying 5,386 dumpsites with an estimated 16,367 tons of trash.
Please check our Calendar of Events for upcoming cleanups. If you would like to become a volunteer or donor for the affiliate, please contact Mike Union, Affiliate Coordinator, at e-mail.
